Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, has confirmed that an overnight Israeli airstrike has killed Alireza Tangsiri, the commander of the naval division of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Katz disclosed that the operation, carried out by Israeli forces, was “precise and lethal,” adding that several senior naval officers were also eliminated during the strike alongside Tangsiri.
“The man who was directly responsible for the terrorist operation of mining and blocking the Strait of Hormuz to shipping was blown up and eliminated.”
The development marks another major escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, which erupted on February 28. Israeli officials maintain that several high-ranking Iranian figures have been targeted since the fighting began, including Ali Khamenei and Ali Larijani.
In the past few days, Israel has stepped up its offensive against Iran’s naval assets, reportedly striking multiple vessels such as missile-armed ships, support vessels, and patrol boats in the Caspian Sea.
Meanwhile, casualties continue to surge. Iranian health authorities say that in just one month of clashes, at least 1,937 people have been killed — including many women and children — while more than 24,800 others have been injured.
