Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday night in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash at the Estádio José Alvalade.
The decisive moment came late in the game, with Kai Havertz netting the only goal in the 90th minute to hand the visitors a crucial advantage heading into the return leg.
Both sides had chances earlier in the match. Sporting started brightly and nearly took the lead in the sixth minute when Araujo unleashed a powerful strike inside the box that rattled the crossbar.
Arsenal responded soon after, as Madueke tested the hosts with a clever corner in the 15th minute, sending a direct effort towards goal that also hit the crossbar.
The tie will now be decided in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, April 15, with the winner set to face either Barcelona or Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals.
