Afrobeats singer Chike has opened up about the marriage advice his mother gave him, stressing the importance of choosing a partner who contributes meaningfully to life and relationships.
During an interview on Ada’s Room, Chike said his mother warned him against marrying someone without a stable income or someone weighed down by family responsibilities that could create financial strain.
“My mum advised me never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a source of livelihood, no matter how much love there is,” he explained.
He also shared that his mother cautioned him against marrying a firstborn child carrying heavy family obligations who is not financially independent, noting that such situations could lead to long-term pressures in marriage.
“She told me to avoid marrying someone with the baggage of family responsibilities, especially a firstborn who is not productive,” Chike added.
The singer revealed that he takes his mother’s advice seriously, now asking potential partners about their financial independence and family situation before pursuing a relationship. He urged men to consider factors like stability, personal growth, and long-term compatibility rather than just physical attraction when choosing a life partner.
