Nafiu Bala, the factional national chairman of the African Democratic Congress, has dismissed claims that he resigned as deputy national chairman, insisting that a circulating resignation letter was forged and did not originate from him.

In a video released by Rariya Hausa, Bala addressed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s recent resolution on the ADC’s prolonged leadership dispute. He rejected reports that he stepped down on May 17, 2025, declaring, “I wish to state that this paper did not come from me, and that is not my signature on it. The signature you see there was forged.”

Bala traced his rise to acting national chairman to the resignation of the party’s previous leadership. On July 2, former ADC chairman Ralph Nwosu publicly announced that he, his secretary, and other party officials were stepping down, while clarifying that Bala and others would continue managing party affairs until the next national convention.

Referring to the party constitution as the basis for his authority, Bala confirmed his official resumption as national chairman: “Because of that, I am resuming office today as the ADC national chairman. According to our party constitution, when there is no leader, the deputy takes over.”
