The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made in a statement on Tuesday by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful on completing Ramadan and urged them to continue practising the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice emphasized during the fasting period.
He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and prosperity.
The minister encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and to extend acts of kindness to the less privileged, noting that the holiday is an opportunity to foster goodwill and harmony.
The statement reaffirmed the government’s dedication to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
