Nigerian LGBTQ+ and immigration advocate Edafe Okporo has announced the end of his marriage to husband Nick Giglio, three years after they got married.
Originally from Warri, Okporo has built a notable profile in the United States as a vocal supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and immigrant causes. He and Nick tied the knot in July 2022, a union that captured public attention, and their separation is now drawing similar interest.
On Friday, March 27, Okporo shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo of their hands intertwined along with a joint statement from both him and Nick. The message was thoughtful and composed, reflecting their wish to handle the situation respectfully.
“Nick and I have made the mutual decision to end our marriage. We have officially filed for a no-fault divorce by mutual agreement. This has been a hard decision, and we are taking the time and space we need to move through it with honesty and respect,” they wrote.
They also urged followers to avoid turning the news into a spectacle or taking sides. “You’re welcome to continue holding space for both of us, together or separately,” the statement added, signed simply as Nick and Edafe.
The post quickly spread online, with supporters sending messages of encouragement as the couple begins separate chapters in their lives.
