President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu arrived at Stansted Airport on Tuesday afternoon, kicking off a landmark state visit to the United Kingdom.
Their presidential plane touched down shortly after 3:00 p.m. local time under clear skies, captured in a video shared on X by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
“Timeline: 15:23PM. President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu touch down at Stansted Airport, United Kingdom, as the historic visit begins,” Dare wrote. The clip shows the plane coming to a stop on the runway before the couple disembarks.
The visit, extended by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, is Nigeria’s first state visit to the UK since 1989 and the first time a Nigerian leader will be received at Windsor Castle. Previous Nigerian state visits under the late Queen Elizabeth II took place in 1973 and 1981.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Tinubus will be guests of the King and Queen at Windsor Castle from March 18 to 19.
During the visit, President Tinubu will be the guest of honor at the Nigerian Modernism exhibition, which will showcase modern arts and culture, and attend a reception with Nigerian and British business leaders and diaspora members.
The president and king will also engage with national and international organizations that promote interfaith dialogue and understanding.
