Anambra State Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo has threatened sanctions against civil servants who fail to report to work on time.

The warning came during an unannounced inspection at the Jerome Udorji State Secretariat in Awka on Thursday, where the governor noted that only a small number of workers were present at their posts.

Following the swearing-in of key government appointees earlier in the day, Governor Soludo announced plans to automate attendance for state civil servants and carry out regular monitoring of staff turnout.

Dismayed by the low level of attendance, the governor conducted a ministry-by-ministry, desk-to-desk assessment and found the records unsatisfactory. He directed that civil servants arriving after 10 a.m. or absent altogether be sanctioned accordingly.

In addition, Governor Soludo ordered immediate emergency upgrades to the secretariat complex, including improvements to power supply.

AIT.live reported that news of the governor’s visit quickly spread, prompting a surge of workers rushing to the secretariat shortly after his arrival.
