President Bola Tinubu has redirected his plans from Ogun State to Plateau State, traveling to Jos to console victims of recent deadly attacks.

The decision was announced on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. Tinubu was originally scheduled to visit Iperu, Ogun State, on Thursday to inaugurate operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport.

According to the statement, “He will head to Jos, capital of Plateau State, to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the recent gun attacks, which claimed the lives of innocent citizens.”

The visit follows a violent assault in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, on Sunday, when gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on residents, killing dozens and injuring many. In response, Governor Caleb Mutfwang imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area, which was later partially lifted, though sporadic attacks reportedly continued.

The attacks also disrupted education, prompting the University of Jos to evacuate students from hostels for safety reasons.

After Jos, Tinubu will proceed to Lagos for the Good Friday holiday. He is now scheduled to visit Ogun State on Saturday, April 4, to commission the cargo airport, inaugurate two commercial aircraft for export and import, and open the new Federal Operations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service along with its operational vehicles.
