Tobi Makinde has addressed ongoing speculation about his relationship with Funke Akindele, dismissing claims of any rift between them.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, the actor said social media narratives have exaggerated the situation, stressing that their relationship remains intact and was never defined by online opinions.

He explained that whatever people perceive as distance is simply a result of personal and professional growth over time.

“Nothing really happened between me and Madam Funke. What I’d just say about the matter is that social media likes to write its own script, and then try to find characters to fill it up. Concerning me and Madam Funke’s, our relationship didn’t start on social media, and it won’t end online.”

Makinde noted that relationships in the entertainment industry naturally evolve as individuals grow and pursue their own paths, but that does not mean there is any bad blood.

“There are just some type of growth that, once you move from one position to another, some relationships would seem like they got lost during that growth. There is no way you will write my name, and you won’t mention my father, Jimi Makinde, or Mr Tunji Bamisigbin, or even Madam Funke Akindele. Those were the key players for my career.”

He also addressed comments about Akindele’s absence at his wedding, explaining that her busy schedule around film promotion made it difficult for her to attend.

“The time I did my wedding was when she was also promoting her film, and she’s a very busy person, and she holds her craft to heart.”

The actor further stated that he is now focused on his own production work but still maintains respect for Akindele, adding that their professional relationship remains open and cordial.

“Currently, I am doing my own thing, doing my own production. If she calls me for a show, of course, I would go if I am not busy. And if I also have a story that I feel she can be inside, of course, I will reach out.”
