Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu has fired a sharp rebuke at political commentators Reno Omokri and Femi Fani‑Kayode, criticizing their apparent flip-flop on President Bola Tinubu.
On his X account, Momodu shared a video of the duo criticizing Tinubu, accompanied by a caption reflecting his frustration with their conduct. He titled it “RENO OMOKRI & FEMI FANI‑KAYODE: A TALE OF TWO SHAMELESS FRIENDS”, recalling his bitter experiences with the pair.
Momodu said he had initially planned to ignore them but chose to respond “just in case they think they could bully me into silence and submission.” He described both Omokri and Fani‑Kayode as lacking credibility, noting that their previous harsh statements about Tinubu are impossible to erase.
“The only reason I could adduce for Tinubu’s tolerance of both irritants is desperation and his inability to find better people to do the dirty jobs. Their brains have been configured to say anything and delete immediately,” he wrote.
Momodu stressed that, unlike the duo, he has never made unverified allegations against the president. “I have never disparaged Tinubu in my life. I have never called him a murderer. I have never called him a drug baron or addict. Only morons talk without thinking,” he said.
He clarified that his only criticism of Tinubu is labeling his leadership as dictatorial, a stance he firmly maintains due to his opposition to tyranny and Nigeria’s historical experience with military rule.
Momodu also noted that both Omokri and Fani‑Kayode have, on occasions, reached out to him privately — either seeking publicity or apologizing after publicly attacking him — highlighting what he sees as their inconsistency.
He concluded by expressing disbelief that they continue to defend an administration they had previously undermined. “How Femi and Reno can continue to harass people on behalf of a Tinubu they’ve permanently damaged really baffles me. But this is Nigeria,” he wrote.
