A tragic incident occurred at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, on Tuesday evening after a 100-level student was allegedly stabbed to death during a fight with his brother.
The incident reportedly happened in the bushes behind Hostel C of the institution. Although the university had yet to disclose the victim’s identity as of press time, sources said the student sustained multiple stab wounds during the altercation.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim managed to drag himself from the scene to a nearby walkway, where he eventually collapsed in a pool of blood.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and said the suspect had been taken into custody.
He added that more details would be released as investigations progress.
An official responsible for Hostel C declined to comment, saying the university management was already handling the matter.
“The university management is handling the matter. I can’t say anything for now,” the official said.
A university union official, who spoke anonymously, revealed that the deceased and the suspect are children of the same father and had initially engaged in a fight inside their hostel room.
The source said a roommate intervened and separated them, but the brothers later went behind the hostel where the confrontation resumed.
“One was fatally stabbed and he managed to climb to the walkway where some students fetching water saw him and brought him to the Medical Centre, but it was too late,” the source said.
The official added that the porter on duty was preparing a detailed report on the incident to assist the university management in determining the next steps.
As of the time of filing this report, FUPRE had not issued an official statement on the incident.
