Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi Pro League club, Al Nassr, is reportedly facing financial difficulties that have stalled transfer plans and led to delays in players’ salary payments.

According to Saudi outlet Al-Riyadiyah, the club’s financial challenges have surfaced just days after the appointment of Europa League-winning coach Ange Postecoglou. The report also comes months after Ronaldo reportedly expressed frustration over what he viewed as insufficient investment in the squad.

The report claims several first-team players received their June salaries in instalments, while the club’s management is working to clear the outstanding payments. However, it did not specify how many players were affected, the amount still owed, or when the remaining salaries would be paid.

Al-Riyadiyah further reported that the club’s growing debts, which allegedly exceed its revenue, have brought its transfer activities to a standstill. One of the affected plans is the proposed signing of a foreign player to replace Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

A source quoted by the publication said the club cannot take on new contractual obligations until its financial issues are resolved and it can prove its ability to meet existing commitments.

The source also claimed that Al Nassr’s management has yet to submit the required financial documents to the relevant authorities to demonstrate its capacity to register new contracts.

The reported financial strain comes despite Al Nassr’s significant spending in recent years following Ronaldo’s arrival, a period that culminated in the club winning the Saudi Pro League title last season, ending a seven-year wait for the championship.
