The Catholic Diocese of Lokoja has confirmed the death of Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, who was reportedly killed by unknown attackers in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, along the Ajaokuta Road, where the priest was allegedly attacked and stabbed multiple times. His body was later discovered by the roadside.

Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, and hailed from Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area. Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Egbe, where he was actively involved in pastoral work.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and authorities are yet to provide a detailed account of the incident or announce any arrests in connection with the killing.

Confirming the sad development, the Catholic Diocese of Lokoja called on priests, religious faithful and parishioners to pray for the late cleric and his family.

The Diocese said:

“We kindly request all priests, religious and Laity to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul during their Holy Masses and personal prayers and to pray for strength and consolation for his aged parents, siblings, parishioners and their entire Diocese of Lokoja during this time of grief.”
