Emmanuel Obasi has broken his silence after his ex-wife, actress Judy Austin, reportedly dragged him to court over alleged defamation, demanding ₦1 billion in damages.
Obasi, who has been speaking publicly about his past with Austin and their children, appeared to dismiss the huge financial claim while reacting to the lawsuit in a video.
He questioned where Austin expected to get ₦1 billion from and made it clear that the legal action would not stop him from speaking about his experiences.
The businessman also said he was willing to face imprisonment if that was what it would take to regain access to his children, stressing that he knew what he had endured to have them.
Obasi further challenged the basis of the defamation allegation, asking whether speaking about what he believes to be the truth could amount to defamation.
In an extract from the video, he said:
“My ex-wife, Judy, sued me for ₦1 billion for defamation. She has seen the Central Bank; I will never keep quiet. Let them send me to prison or let me get my children back because I know what I went through to have them… She is claiming that I defamed her, so when did telling the truth become defamation?”
The development comes after Austin reportedly filed legal proceedings against Obasi at the Federal High Court in Abuja. She is seeking damages and other reliefs, including a retraction, apology and an order stopping him from making further alleged defamatory statements.
According to reports, the case is scheduled to commence on September 29, 2026. Obasi has acknowledged receiving the court documents and has now publicly responded to the lawsuit.
