The faction of the Accord Party led by its National Chairman and presidential candidate, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has announced a change in its political allegiance ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
Imumolen declared on Thursday that his faction was no longer supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke and had instead chosen to back the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
He made the announcement at the APC mega rally in Osun State, where he called on Accord members to support Oyebamiji at the polls.
“As the national chairman of Accord Party, we have taken down our support for Ademola Adeleke and today, we declare our support for Ambo (Oyebamiji). Come on Saturday, all Accord members in Osun State should go to the polling units and vote for Ambo. By the 15th of August, Ambo will be sworn in as the governor of Osun State,” Imumolen said.
He also demonstrated the change in allegiance at the rally by removing the yellow cap associated with Accord in the state and putting on an APC cap. The yellow cap was subsequently thrown into the air by an unidentified individual.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who attended the event as President Bola Tinubu’s representative, said he had received information that Accord had abandoned its earlier position and joined forces with the APC.
Akpabio also conveyed the President’s greetings to the people of Osun and assured residents that security personnel would be deployed to safeguard voters and prevent harassment.
“Feel free to go out and vote the candidate of your choice,” Akpabio told the crowd.
He further encouraged residents to “link the state with the government at the centre.”
