Kenneth Okonkwo, the official spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has claimed that President Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi both endorsed Atiku Abubakar in previous presidential elections.
Okonkwo made the claim during a recent press briefing while discussing the presidential ambitions of Atiku, Tinubu and Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, Tinubu endorsed Atiku’s presidential bid in 2007, while Obi backed the former Vice President during the 2019 presidential election.
Okonkwo argued that the endorsements set Atiku apart from the two politicians, noting that he is the only one among the three to have received the backing of the other two at different points.
“Bola Tinubu endorsed Atiku to be president in 2007. Peter Obi endorsed Atiku to be president in 2019.
“Two out of the three of them, Atiku is the only person that has been endorsed by the other two. So, if the other two believe that he is the best, what are you looking for?
“They know themselves, but they don’t know themselves more than you and I,” Okonkwo said.
Okonkwo’s comments come as the political landscape begins to take shape ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with Atiku, Tinubu and Obi among the prominent figures expected to remain central to discussions surrounding Nigeria’s next presidential contest.
