Chelsea have entered a new phase of ownership after American investment firm Clearlake Capital acquired the ownership interests of Todd Boehly and Mark Walter, giving the firm full control of the Premier League club.

Chelsea confirmed the ownership transition on Wednesday, announcing that affiliates of Clearlake would acquire Boehly’s ownership interest and Walter’s stake.

Swiss businessman Hansjörg Wyss will remain a significant stakeholder and partner within the club’s ownership group, according to Chelsea.

Boehly has also stepped down from his position as chairman of the club.

The development represents a major change to Chelsea’s ownership structure, four years after Clearlake and Boehly partnered to purchase the club from former owner Roman Abramovich.

Clearlake Capital is a global private investment firm founded in 2006 by Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano. The firm operates across private equity, liquid and private credit, as well as other investment strategies.

According to information published by the firm, its private-equity operations focus primarily on the technology, industrial and consumer sectors.

Clearlake invests in both private and public transactions across different parts of the capital structure, including buyouts, corporate divestitures, reorganisations and recapitalisations.

The firm says it works with experienced management teams by providing what it describes as “patient, long-term capital” while applying its O.P.S. operational improvement approach.

Its investment strategy targets businesses that it believes can benefit from operational improvements, including companies undergoing transitions and those affected by market disruptions.

Clearlake was established in 2006 with three employees and an initial fund of $182 million, according to its corporate history.

The firm now says it has more than $185 billion in combined assets under management, over 500 employees worldwide and has led or co-led more than 1,900 investments.

Its global expansion has included the opening of offices in London and Dublin in 2022 and Singapore in 2023.

Clearlake also launched Clearlake Credit in 2025 following its acquisition of MV Credit.

In 2026, the investment firm completed the acquisition of Pathway Capital Management, which it said strengthened its position as a global private-markets platform and contributed to its combined assets under management exceeding $185 billion.

With the latest ownership restructuring, Clearlake now has full control of Chelsea, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the London club.
