Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has expressed relief that he was not among the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors whom FCT Minister Nyesom Wike accused of opposing his Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sule made the remark on Tuesday during an interview on TVC, while commenting on the ongoing disagreement between Wike and some APC governors over the proposed political coalition.

Wike had earlier identified Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun as the three APC governors he said were having issues with him over the Rainbow Coalition.

Reacting to the development, Sule said he was grateful that his name was not included among the governors listed by Wike.

“Thank God I’m not on that list. I feel relieved that I’m not on Wike’s list of APC governors fighting the Rainbow Coalition.

“Wike is one of the ministers in this administration, and if he says he wants to support President Tinubu from another party, remember he’s not an APC member.

“What’s the whole essence of an alliance? I think the Governors’ Forum message was misunderstood.”

Sule’s comments come amid an ongoing debate over the Rainbow Coalition, which Wike has presented as a cross-party political arrangement to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Wike has maintained that supporting Tinubu at the presidential level does not require other political parties to abandon their candidates for other elective positions.

The disagreement has also involved the Progressive Governors’ Forum, chaired by Uzodimma, which has expressed opposition to political arrangements that could undermine the APC or its candidates.

While Wike has identified three APC governors as opponents of his coalition, Sule’s remarks indicate that he does not consider himself part of that group and believes the position of the APC Governors’ Forum may have been misunderstood.

The exchanges are taking place as political parties and their allies intensify preparations and negotiations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
