The 2027 governorship contest in Oyo State is shaping up to be fiercely competitive if Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, secures the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket, automatically positioning him as Governor Seyi Makinde’s preferred candidate.
On Sunday, Ogundoyin’s Special Assistant on Media, Oyetunji Oyekunle, announced that PDP stakeholders in Ibarapaland endorsed the Speaker following a zonal meeting in Igboora. The session, which focused on preparations for a planned visit by Governor Makinde, included a vote of confidence in Ogundoyin.
Party stakeholders commended Ogundoyin for his leadership, loyalty to the PDP, and role in maintaining legislative stability. They urged him to formally declare his intention to contest the 2027 election, promising their full support.
Representing Ibarapa East Constituency, Ogundoyin thanked his supporters, describing the endorsement as both an honour and a responsibility. He affirmed his commitment to the race, emphasizing his vision for inclusive governance, unity, and continued development across Oyo State.
The meeting drew prominent party figures, government officials, and grassroots politicians, including House of Representatives member Anthony Adepoju, state commissioners Ademola Ojo and Wasilat Adegoke, and other key stakeholders.
