Yusuf Tanko Sununu has resigned from his role as Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction as he sets his sights on a new political journey in Kebbi State.

He confirmed the development on Monday, noting that his decision was in compliance with existing regulations that require public officials to step aside before contesting elections.

Responding to an inquiry via text message, Sununu gave a brief confirmation that he had indeed left office.

The former federal lawmaker, who represented Shanga, Yauri, and Ngaski Federal Constituency, is said to be preparing a bid for the Kebbi South Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

Prior to his ministerial role at the federal level, Sununu served in Kebbi State’s education sector as commissioner. In both positions, he was known for initiating and supporting programs aimed at improving the welfare of residents across the state.
