Nigerian singer Solidstar has criticised the country’s music industry, arguing that many artistes have remained stuck in one genre instead of embracing musical diversity.
In a post shared online, the singer said Nigerian musicians are not versatile, claiming that the industry’s heavy focus on Afrobeats has limited creativity.
Reflecting on his early years in music, Solidstar noted that when he broke into the industry around 2009 and 2010, there was room for different sounds, with Fuji music enjoying massive popularity alongside other genres.
He wrote:
“Nigerian musicians aren’t versatile.
“Stocked on one Genre (AFROBEATS) Nothing like AFROBEATS when I came out fully in 2009/2010, FUJI was even huge! Make dem stop over rating nonsense and start selling good music!”
