The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed as false a widely circulated wanted notice carrying the image of comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus.
The anti-graft agency addressed the claim on Thursday via its official social media handle, branding the poster “FAKE NEWS” and warning those behind it to stop spreading misleading content.
“Clout chaser, Stop this now!” the commission wrote.
The viral poster had alleged that Sabinus was wanted for obtaining money by false pretence and even included a supposed last known address on Ligali Ayomide Street in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Investigations showed the image was doctored to resemble the EFCC’s usual wanted notice format, giving it a false appearance of authenticity.
The commission did not state whether it has identified or is pursuing those responsible for creating and circulating the fake material.
