Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of Kano State, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party and rejoined the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He confirmed the move on Sunday at his residence on Mundubawa Avenue in Kano, where APC posters were prominently displayed, reflecting his return to the party.

Shekarau made the switch alongside Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, a notable figure within the PDP.

Explaining the decision, he said it was reached after wide consultations and careful evaluation of political realities.

“We have weighed all the options and arrived at this collective resolution. Do you all agree?” he said, urging anyone with reservations to speak out.

The announcement followed shortly after he tendered his resignation from the PDP.

In a letter dated April 19, 2026, addressed to the party chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, he stated that his resignation takes immediate effect.

“Accept this letter please as notice of my resignation from my position as member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from today,” he wrote.

He also appreciated the leadership at the ward level for their support during his time in the party.

“I thank you for being a good leader, and pray that Allah will continue to guide you in your stewardship.”
