Negotiations between Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership have collapsed, ending months of discussions that could have led to a political realignment in the state.

The talks, which involved a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State backed by Tanimu Turaki, reportedly broke down after both sides failed to reach agreement on key conditions.

Speaking to journalists in Bauchi on Saturday, the faction’s chairman, Samaila Adamu Burga, said the APC showed no readiness to accommodate the existing party structure or give room for meaningful power sharing.

According to him, the APC, through its National Chairman Prof. Yiltwada Netanwe and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, had initially engaged Governor Mohammed in discussions aimed at persuading him to join the party.

However, the talks hit the rocks after the APC rejected a proposed 60/40 arrangement for control of party structures in Bauchi State.

“This arrangement has been adopted in other states where governors defected to the APC, but they turned it down. That effectively ended the discussions,” Burga said.

He added that it was unreasonable to expect a sitting government bringing in its full political structure from ward to state level to have no significant say in party control.

Burga also revealed that Governor Mohammed personally led the negotiation process, but consultations within the PDP made it clear that the conditions being offered were not acceptable.

“In light of this, we wish to announce that the discussions have not yielded a conclusive outcome and are hereby formally discontinued,” he said.

He further stated that the group is now considering other political options and potential alliances ahead of future decisions, stressing that engagement with the APC had officially ended.
