Nigeria has recorded a fresh case of COVID-19, with the latest infection confirmed in Cross River State.

The Cross River State Ministry of Health has commenced profiling and contact tracing of individuals who may have come in contact with a Chinese national currently receiving treatment after testing positive for the virus.

The State Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, disclosed this in Calabar while briefing journalists on what he described as a resurgence of the COVID-19 variant in the state.

Ayuk noted that this is Cross River’s first significant case since 2022, adding that the government is determined to prevent further spread of the virus.

He explained that the patient, who arrived in Nigeria on March 17, 2026, is believed to have been infected locally after the 14-day incubation period had elapsed, with symptoms reportedly appearing on April 10.
