Former Kaduna Central senator and APC chieftain, Shehu Sani, has downplayed the rising political support for former presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing it as sentiment-driven and lacking real ideological substance, while predicting that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election in 2027.
Sani made the comments during an appearance on “The Honest Bunch Podcast,” where he joined human rights activist Deji Adeyanju in a discussion on Nigeria’s leadership and political direction.
Speaking on the platform, he argued that the enthusiasm around Obi’s support base is largely emotional and influenced by ethnic alignment rather than policy or governance considerations. “The support for Peter Obi is drama, many of those supporting him and those who come from his ethnic background. If Obi becomes the President of Nigeria today, nothing changes, everything remains the same.”
He also insisted that Nigeria’s major political actors are not significantly different in their ideological outlook, claiming that both ruling and opposition figures share similar political thinking.
“Obi, Obasanjo, Atiku, and Tinubu are people who come from the same ideological perspective. They are people who share the same political thinking. Tinubu will win the 2027 elections; the choice we have is between Satan and the devil,” he added.
