Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has reportedly endorsed his immediate past Commissioner for Works, Mustapha Gubio, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that is already shaping early political dynamics within the party.
The endorsement was confirmed on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Dauda Iliya, who said Gubio aligns closely with the administration’s development direction and would continue its ongoing reforms and projects if elected.
“Gubio represents continuity. He understands the vision of this administration and has the capacity to build on its achievements,” Iliya said.
The political signal was further reinforced by a photograph shared by the governor’s aide, showing Gubio formally presenting his expression of interest and nomination forms to Zulum.
The image also featured Senate Chief Whip, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, standing alongside Gubio and a group of supporters, a moment widely interpreted as a public display of growing political backing ahead of the 2027 race.
