Paris Saint-Germain claimed a slim edge over Bayern Munich after edging a thrilling 5-4 win in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final at the Parc des Princes.

The match between two of Europe’s most attack-minded teams delivered a nine-goal spectacle, leaving the tie delicately poised ahead of the return leg in Germany.

Bayern struck first when Harry Kane converted from the penalty spot after Luis Diaz was brought down, but PSG quickly responded through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who curled a fine effort into the far corner.

Joao Neves then put the hosts ahead with a header, only for Michael Olise to restore parity with a brilliant solo effort. The drama intensified before halftime when a VAR review led referee Sandro Schärer to award PSG a penalty for a handball involving Alphonso Davies, which Ousmane Dembélé calmly converted to make it 3-2 at the break.

PSG pushed further ahead in the second half. Kvaratskhelia scored his second of the night after a cross from Achraf Hakimi, before Dembélé added another to stretch the lead to 5-2 and seemingly put the game out of reach.

Bayern, however, mounted a late fightback. Dayot Upamecano pulled one back with a deft finish, and Luis Diaz added another after being set up by Kane, narrowing the gap to just one goal.

Despite PSG’s attacking control, Bayern’s late surge keeps the tie alive heading into the second leg in Munich on May 6.

The winner will face either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid in the final in Budapest.
