Seventeen members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigerian Democratic Congress, an announcement made during plenary on Tuesday.

Their defection was formally disclosed on the floor of the House, marking a major political shift ahead of the build-up to the 2027 general elections.

The development comes shortly after high-profile political movements involving the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former New Nigeria Peoples Party presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who were also reported to have moved from the ADC to the NDC.

During the same plenary session, Leke Abejide was also announced to have left the ADC for the All Progressives Congress (APC), further reshaping party alignments in the House.

The lawmakers who joined the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, Munachim Umezuruike, Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi and others.
