Former President Goodluck Jonathan has hinted at the possibility of participating in the 2027 presidential election, saying he would carry out wide consultations before making any decision.

Jonathan made the remark on Thursday in Abuja after a group of supporters visited his office to urge him to contest in the next presidential race.

Speaking to the group, the former president stressed the importance of patriotism, peace, and credible elections in Nigeria, noting that the country’s future depends heavily on the involvement of young people in the democratic process.

“It’s only patriotic citizens that build their nations. Unpatriotic citizens will destroy their nation, take the money to anywhere to enjoy their life,” he said.

Jonathan also urged Nigerian youths to continue pushing for peaceful and transparent elections, warning that credible citizens would avoid politics if the electoral system lacks fairness.

“The key thing we need in this country is peace,” he stated.

He further noted that he has observed elections in several African countries and understands the seriousness of presidential contests.

“Presidential race is not a computer game, but I heard you, and I will consult widely,” Jonathan added.

The former president, however, maintained that the focus should remain on building a better future for younger generations and preserving peace across the country.
