Actress Shine Rosman has expressed concern over what she described as the increasing prevalence of sexual harassment in Nigeria, saying it has become so common that it is often ignored.
Speaking in an interview with Tolu Afilaka, she said many cases go unreported, especially in busy public places like markets where victims are frequently subjected to inappropriate touching.
She questioned the level of safety women experience in the country, adding that harassment in public spaces reflects deeper risks in society.
Rosman cited areas such as Yaba in Lagos, alleging that women are often harassed in plain sight without any form of intervention from authorities or the public.
She criticised what she described as the lack of accountability, saying it leaves women exposed and with little protection.
“Do you know how bad s3xual harassment is in Lagos. Like go to Yaba, as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately.
“Everybody hearing this knows that it is true. But till today, nothing is being done about it. You’re walking in Yaba and people are touching you inappropriately and nothing will happen.
“If the government is not going to do anything, is it not okay for us to defend ourselves?” she said.
She added that sexual harassment is still not taken seriously in 2026, despite its wider implications for women’s safety.
“In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, s3xual harassment is still one of the most passive things.
“If a man can s3xually harass you casually during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?” she added.
