Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has said the growing disagreements among opposition figures will make it easier for the ruling APC to remain in power in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, the former Edo State governor claimed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is indirectly helping the APC through his criticisms of Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Oshiomhole also pointed to the exchanges involving Obi and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, saying the opposition leaders appear more focused on attacking one another than presenting a united front ahead of 2027.
“You mean that APC would be worried about which of the parties now… ADC? I saw Atiku. Atiku is now our best campaign manager because he is attacking Obi, and I see Obi attacking Amaechi. I see Amaechi say Obi is a regional player, Atiku is a regional player, and he is the only national player, but he didn’t tell us what his ward unit looks like,” he said.
The APC chieftain expressed confidence that opposition parties and any coalition they may form would fail to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
According to him, opposition leaders have not clearly explained which of Tinubu’s economic policies they intend to reverse if given power.
“So, the opposition can have their dreams, but they will be defeated flatly because nobody believes them. They have to speak to the new policies that they would reverse, whether they would reverse taxation, reverse fuel subsidy removal, student loans, or reverse any of those bold decisions that President Tinubu has taken,” Oshiomhole stated.
He further accused opposition politicians of being united mainly by their desire to take power, while insisting Tinubu has taken difficult but necessary steps to restructure the economy through major policy decisions.
Political activities and alignments have continued to intensify ahead of the 2027 elections as opposition leaders position themselves to challenge the APC-led government.
