Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during a joint mega rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) held in Ibadan.
At the event, he announced his presidential ambition, saying the country needed urgent renewal and reform.
“The time to reset Nigeria is now. Therefore, today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, announce my candidacy for the position of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
He criticised the current state of governance, stating that Nigeria’s situation has worsened and left many citizens struggling for survival on a daily basis. He also accused those in charge of failing in their responsibilities to the people.
Makinde said the hardship facing Nigerians has raised key questions about the country’s future, adding that citizens are increasingly exhausted by economic and social pressures.
He also dismissed claims that the opposition is divided, insisting that ordinary Nigerians represent the true opposition demanding change.
During the rally, he announced a political alliance between the PDP and APM, saying it would allow the parties to present candidates across all levels in the 2027 general elections, from the presidency down to state assemblies.
