In the 155-year history of the FA Cup final, few winning goals have matched the audacity of what decided this year’s showpiece.

Manchester City secured a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, with Antoine Semenyo producing a moment of brilliance to settle a tightly contested final.

The match had offered little in terms of clear chances until the second half, before Semenyo lit it up in the 72nd minute. He latched onto a cross from Erling Haaland and, with an improvised back-heel, steered the ball low into the far corner, leaving Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez helpless.

The victory keeps Manchester City on course for a possible domestic treble, having already lifted the English League Cup. Pep Guardiola’s side also remains in the Premier League title race, sitting second behind Arsenal with two matches left.

It marks the 17th major trophy of Guardiola’s spell at City and the 35th of his managerial career overall.

Manchester City’s FA Cup triumph is their eighth in the competition, drawing them level with Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham among the tournament’s most successful clubs.

For Chelsea, the defeat confirms a season without silverware, ending a difficult campaign just a year after their Club World Cup success.
