Chelsea have officially appointed former Real Madrid midfielder and Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso as their new head coach.

The Premier League club confirmed the Spanish tactician’s arrival on a four-year contract, ending speculation over their managerial search following the departure of Liam Rosenior.

Alonso, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches, takes charge at Stamford Bridge after impressing with his tactical work and development-focused approach in Germany.
