Mercy Johnson-Okojie has come under intense criticism on social media following the launch of a menstrual care product reportedly priced at N25,000.

The product, called Girls Tag, is described as an all-in-one period care kit designed for girls aged nine and above.

The Nollywood actress and her daughter, Purity Okojie, were recently unveiled as brand ambassadors for the menstrual hygiene brand, while fellow actress Regina Daniels was later announced to also represent the product.

However, the unveiling has sparked backlash online, with many Nigerians expressing anger over the N25,000 price tag, which they described as unrealistic and insensitive given the economic situation in the country and the reality of period poverty affecting many girls.

Critics argued that although the product may be targeted at a premium market, the messaging and timing appeared disconnected from the struggles of average Nigerian women and girls.

Some users also linked the controversy to Mercy Johnson’s public image and political affiliations, saying it contributed to the backlash.

“For this package, N25,000 is much. Poor girl no fit buy am, make we no lie. So every month I will buy N25,000 pad kit, especially if you are heavy flow type? Let us be real,” one user wrote.

Others defended the actress, saying the product is not meant for everyone and should be seen as a business venture targeting a specific audience.

“Not everyone is a philanthropist. Nigeria’s problem is not everyone’s problem. She knows who her customers are. This is business,” another commenter said.
