Nollywood veteran Bob-Manuel Udokwu has revealed why he deliberately stayed away from social media discussions for a long time.

In a post shared on Instagram on Thursday, the actor and former politician said he chose to remain mostly silent online because of the toxic atmosphere and the kind of topics that often dominate conversations in Nigeria’s social media space.

Posting a photo of himself, Udokwu said he finds it surprising that issues unrelated to the everyday hardship faced by Nigerians usually attract the most attention online.

“Social media has become something else in Nigeria. Most times things that have little or no relevance to the day to day struggles of the people go viral and consume valuable time and data from the same traumatized people! It baffles me!” he wrote.

He also condemned the constant trolling and attacks that have become common on social platforms, adding that he has no regrets about observing quietly from the background instead of actively participating.

“Too much dragging and trolling everywhere! I really don’t regret my choice to stay quiet and read from the sidelines while the job is done,” he stated.

However, Udokwu hinted that fans should expect to see more of him online going forward, saying he has decided to become more active because of the encouragement and requests he has received from supporters.

“However due to popular demand I will be more active in posting and engaging my fans from now on….. How una see am?” he added.
