French club AS Monaco FC have confirmed the dismissal of Belgian coach Sebastien Pocognoli after less than eight months in charge.

Pocognoli, who still had one year remaining on his contract, was relieved of his duties following Monaco’s seventh-place finish in Ligue 1, a result that saw the club miss out on qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. The team will instead compete in the UEFA Conference League play-offs.

In an official statement, the club announced the end of its collaboration with the 38-year-old at the conclusion of the 2025–2026 season.

Pocognoli was appointed last October, arriving from Union Saint-Gilloise to replace Adi Hütter. He initially struggled to steady the team but later guided Monaco into top-three contention with a 10-match unbeaten run. However, a poor finish to the campaign ultimately derailed their Champions League hopes.

He leaves the club alongside his assistants, Kevin Mirallas and Artur Kopyt, while three other backroom staff members were also dismissed in recent days.

Reports in the French media suggest former Chelsea and Atlético Madrid defender Filipe Luís is the leading candidate to take over the managerial role. The 40-year-old recently left Flamengo in March after guiding the Brazilian side to Copa Libertadores success last year.
