The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared Sunday, June 14, 2026, as a “Black Sunday” in honour of victims of terrorist attacks across the country.

The association also announced a three-day national prayer programme scheduled for June 12 to June 14 as part of efforts to seek divine intervention over the nation’s worsening insecurity.

The announcement was made at the end of its National Church Denominational Leadership Summit 2026.

CAN Chairman, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said the situation in the country requires more than prayers alone, stressing the need for urgent and practical steps to address the rising wave of violence.

He called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity, saying decisive action is needed to halt further attacks.

Okoh also urged authorities to fast-track the creation of state police and decentralise the security architecture to ensure quicker response to threats across the country.

He further demanded the unconditional release of all kidnapped victims, insisting that perpetrators of violence must be brought to justice.
