Nigerian music star Davido has reacted to the shooting of the Accord Party chairman in Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, calling for an end to political violence and insecurity.
Ajibola was reportedly attacked by two armed men riding on a motorcycle on Wednesday night in Osogbo Local Government Area. He is currently receiving treatment at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital.
Reacting to the incident on X, Davido urged political actors to refrain from actions that could worsen insecurity in the country, stressing that elections should be decided through the ballot and not through violence.
The singer, whose uncle Ademola Adeleke is the governorship candidate of the Accord Party, condemned the attack and called on all stakeholders to reject political thuggery.
He wrote:
“Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation. The att@ck on the Chairman of Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government by political hoodlums must be condemned and rejected by all. If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not gvns or weapons.”
His comments have since sparked reactions online as concerns grow over political violence ahead of future elections in the state.
