JTON Entertainment Limited has addressed growing public attention surrounding its legal dispute involving the company, Joy Tongo, and singer Amanda Chukwuma, popularly known as Qing Madi, rejecting claims that have circulated online about intimidation or harassment.
The issue gained further traction after Qing Madi’s “Barely Legal” EP was removed from streaming platforms shortly after its release, prompting reactions from the artiste across social media.
In a statement released on Friday, the company clarified that the legal action was initiated by the singer and that its response was strictly to protect its contractual rights, investments, and interests tied to the development of her music career.
JTON maintained that the matter is purely commercial in nature, stressing that it should not be misrepresented as a case of threats or bullying against the artiste.
The company said, “It is a legal and commercial dispute concerning rights, obligations, investment, and the protection of works and opportunities developed during the course of a professional relationship.”
It further denied allegations that it had issued threats or authorised any form of intimidation against Qing Madi, insisting that such claims were false and capable of misleading the public.
Addressing the recent ruling of the High Court of Lagos State, JTON said the judgment had been misinterpreted online, noting that the court did not dismiss its case. It explained that the court only granted part of its interlocutory injunction, restraining the artiste from releasing or performing content produced or financed under the label until the case is fully determined.
The company also noted that its agreements with international partners, including Sony Music and Bu Vision, remain valid and enforceable, adding that content created under such arrangements cannot be used outside approved contractual terms.
JTON reiterated that it remains committed to due process and will continue to pursue all actions within the law and under judicial supervision.
It also urged the public, media platforms, and fans to avoid spreading unverified information and to allow the court to determine the matter without external interference.
