Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa of The Waterbrook Church, Lekki, has opened up about a terrifying health scare involving his wife, gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, during her second pregnancy.
Speaking to his congregation on Sunday, the cleric recounted how Chinwo suddenly lost consciousness while carrying their second child, who was born in 2025.
According to him, the incident happened after the singer stepped out of their room and went to check on their son. Moments later, she began complaining about how she felt before collapsing.
Uzochikwa said he was thrown into panic as Chinwo became unresponsive, prompting him to immediately seek help from gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey.
Sharing the experience, he said:
“Pastor Nath is a blessing to my family. We talk all the time, and I am honoured to have access to him. I can remember what he did when my wife was pregnant with my second child. She came out of the room and went to my son’s room. She started complaining and collapsed. Her face was dark, and I was confused because she was not responding. I called Pastor Nath, and he said that I should do a video call, and he came with the Hallelujah Challenge prayer team.”
The pastor revealed that Bassey later arrived at their residence alongside members of the Hallelujah Challenge prayer team, and after prayers were offered, Chinwo regained consciousness.
He added that Bassey viewed the incident as a spiritual attack, while expressing gratitude for the role he played during the difficult moment.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Uzochikwa said he often thinks about what could have happened if the situation had ended differently, especially given the scrutiny and criticism he faced after marrying the celebrated gospel singer.
