Actress Funmi Awelewa has broken her silence amid the controversy surrounding allegations made by former employees, strongly denying claims that she owes staff salaries and accusing one of her accusers of theft and misconduct.
The actress has faced criticism online in recent weeks, first over a dispute involving Mandykiss and later after a former worker claimed she was not paid for 16 days of work.
The situation escalated further when another former employee, identified as Samad, took to TikTok to accuse Funmi of withholding his wages and treating workers unfairly.
Responding to the allegations, Funmi said she was surprised that Samad was among those speaking against her, claiming he had previously been dismissed for stealing from her business.
“I don’t want to say much about Victoria because my head is already fighting for me.
“But Samad, even if everyone called me out, it shouldn’t be you. You stole from my store,” she said.
According to the actress, Samad allegedly received payments meant for her business through his personal account shortly after he started working for her.
“You used your personal bank account to collect money the first week you resumed because you said you didn’t know the business account,” she alleged.
Funmi further claimed that she terminated his employment because of his smoking habit and other issues, adding that his family pleaded with her not to involve law enforcement.
“I sacked you because of smok!ng. Smoking has rv!ned your life. Your mother and guarantor begged me not to take legal action against you,” she said.
She also questioned why he waited several months after leaving her employment before raising the allegations online.
“You worked for me from September to October last year, but you’re only calling me out now in June, claiming I owe you money. You weren’t even working for me and I was still paying you,” she stated.
The actress went on to allege that after expressing interest in switching from sales work to tailoring, Samad damaged a customer’s clothing and disappeared.
“You said you wanted to quit sales rep and become a tailor, and I agreed. Then you rv!ned my customer’s clothes and ran away. Now you’re online saying I thrften people with police?” she said.
The accusations and counter-accusations have continued to spark debate across social media, with many users awaiting further clarification from those involved.
