Media personality Daddy Freeze has apologised to those who were offended by the outfit he wore to the service of songs held in honour of the late actor Alexx Ekubo, explaining that he was unaware attendees were expected to wear white.
Speaking after the event, Daddy Freeze said he wore black because he did not see the invitation on Instagram and overlooked the dress code on the invitation sent to his phone.
“I apologize to everyone who felt offended because of what I wore to Alex’s service of songs. I wore black because I didn’t see the invite on IG and we don’t follow each other. The invite that was sent to my phone, I didn’t see the dress code at the bottom.
“Where I come from, people wear black to mourn. I don’t understand the white. I thought we were mourning a young man who died when it was not yet his time. He died because of Nigeria’s failure and religious influence. I never knew that a service of songs will have dress code,” he said.
The broadcaster also expressed surprise at the atmosphere of the event, saying he was expecting a more solemn gathering.
According to him, he decided to leave after gospel singer Mercy Chinwo took to the stage and the mood became more celebratory.
“Mercy Chinwo climbed the stage and turned the place to a concert. At this point, I got up and went home. Do people understand what a funeral is? They could have just played hymns,” he stated.
Daddy Freeze further reacted to comments made by actor Yul Edochie, who had questioned why Alexx Ekubo kept his wife away from the public eye.
Responding, the media personality criticised Yul for focusing on the widow, saying her privacy should be respected.
“To Yul Edochie that blamed Alex for not showing his wife before he died, what is your business with the wife? Do you want to start dating her? Everything is not clout,” Daddy Freeze said.
