Tunisia have parted ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi after the team suffered a crushing 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the World Cup.

The dismissal was reported by journalist Romain Molina and comes just months after Lamouchi took charge of the North African side in January 2026. His contract had been scheduled to run until July 2028.

The 54-year-old arrived at the tournament with a wealth of managerial experience, having previously coached clubs such as Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest, Rennes and Al-Jaish. He also managed the Ivory Coast national team.

His exit is notable because Tunisia have played only one game at the World Cup, making it one of the earliest managerial dismissals in the tournament’s history.

Despite the coaching change, Tunisia still have two crucial group-stage matches to play. The team will face Japan on June 21 before taking on the Netherlands on June 26 as they attempt to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
