Tunisia have appointed experienced French coach Hervé Renard as their new head coach in a swift move aimed at salvaging their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed the appointment on Monday, June 16, 2026, shortly after the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi following a disappointing start to the tournament.
Renard takes over immediately as the Eagles of Carthage look to bounce back from their opening 5-1 defeat to Sweden, a result that left them bottom of Group F and in a difficult position to qualify for the knockout stages. His first assignment will be a crucial group match against Japan on June 20 in Monterrey.
Lamouchi’s exit came just hours after the heavy loss, with the federation opting for an urgent change in leadership in a bid to revive their fading hopes.
Renard arrives with a strong reputation in international football, particularly in Africa, where he has built a record of success over the years.
The 57-year-old is the only coach in history to win the Africa Cup of Nations with two different nations, leading Zambia to a shock triumph in 2012 before guiding Côte d’Ivoire to continental glory in 2015.
His coaching career also includes spells with Morocco and Saudi Arabia, along with appearances at the FIFA World Cup, experience Tunisia will be banking on as they attempt to turn their campaign around.
