Friends, family members, and colleagues gathered in Arochukwu, Abia State, on Thursday to bid a final farewell to late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo as he was laid to rest in his hometown. The burial marked the conclusion of a series of funeral rites held in his honour, including a service of songs in Lagos and a wake in Arochukwu.
An emotional video from the funeral captured the moment pallbearers solemnly carried Ekubo’s coffin as the sound of a trumpet echoed through the venue.
Also seen in the clip was the actor’s wife, Anulika Amakom Ekubo, clutching a framed photograph of her late husband as she walked alongside two other family members behind the casket. The touching scene reflected the grief and heartbreak felt by those closest to the actor. The family had earlier appealed to the public to keep his wife and loved ones in their prayers during the difficult period.
Alexx Ekubo died on May 11 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His family described him as a man whose life was defined by love, warmth, generosity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to God and the people he cherished.
The actor was buried at his family residence in Ujari Village, Arochukwu, following a funeral service at Mary Slessor School, with relatives, friends, fans, and members of the entertainment industry present to honour his memory.
