There was panic on Thursday after a fire broke out at the Polaris Bank Tower located at 61/65 Broad Street on Lagos Island, sending thick smoke into the sky and forcing people inside the building to evacuate.
Videos shared on social media captured the dramatic scene as employees, customers, and business operators hurried out of the multi-storey building to safety while smoke billowed from the affected section.
The incident was said to have occurred around 11:45 a.m., prompting an immediate response from emergency agencies.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, alongside other emergency responders, arrived at the scene and worked to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
However, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed that the fire had been successfully extinguished, bringing the situation under control.
