The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of the Oshodi Resettlement Market after officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) were allegedly attacked during an enforcement exercise.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the development in a statement shared on his official X account.
According to Wahab, some traders at the market obstructed LAGESC operatives who were carrying out their official duties and attempted to stop them from arresting suspected hoodlums and beggars in the area.
He further alleged that the suspects damaged operational vehicles belonging to the agency during the confrontation.
“The traders attacked officers and personnel of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and prevented them from arresting hoodlums and beggars who vandalised the agency’s operational vehicles,” Wahab stated.
The incident reportedly occurred during an enforcement operation in Oshodi on Monday.
While the government did not indicate when the market would be reopened, Wahab said investigations are ongoing and further enforcement actions may follow.
